In my casual IMDBing, i discovered Rob Reiner has a new film coming out. I looked back at his career and realised how great a director he was, and how awful he has become.
The man made 7 great films in a row. Which is a pretty amazing feat i must say.
This Is Spinal Tap (1984)
The Sure Thing (1985)
Stand By Me (1986)
The Princess Bride (1987)
When Harry Met Sally…(1989)
Misery (1990)
A Few Good Men (1992)
After that he directed an awful film, North (1994) starring Elijah Wood and a load of cameos, including Bruce Willis in a bunny suit (which is actually kinda awesome but beside the point).
Anyways, since this amazing lucky 7 streak, the man hasn’t really made a film worth watching with close to any quality. Which is sad, because those 7 movies are some of the finest works in the latter part of the 20th Century, each one a classic.
Maybe this new one will be good, i havent a clue, but i have my doubts. Maybe he just ran out of his precious goo a long time ago. And heck, most directors find it hard to make one great movie, let alone follow it with another 6.
Ah well…
